However good the contents of the document if it fails to give a good first visual impression you may not achieve the result that you wanted.

Binding your document can make a real difference using plastic combs that enable it to lay flat on the desk – also choose clear or solid covers front and back to maximise the effect.

The big boys are not as cheap as you think!

It always amazes us that some of the ‘big players’ on line for office supplies and stationery get away with charging so much for so many of the products that they sell.

Our customers are always very pleasantly surprised how much we can save them over their ‘basket’ of products, and they also get the benefit of our friendly persona service rather than experiencing what can often be described as an indifferent attitude from the big companies towards their customers.

Need hanging files for your filing cabinet?

Perhaps you need to replace your existing worn out files in your desk or cabinet, or you’ve just bought a new filer to discover that the draws are empty!

First thing you need to establish is the size of file that you need (not the size of paper you’re putting in it).  Big office size filing cabinets (2, 3 or 4 drawer) generally take foolscap size files, whereas those sold for domestic use will probably use A4.

Basic files are made out of card attached to either metal or plastic bars with hooks at either end to engage with the runners of your cabinet drawers.

As you pay more for your files the card gets stronger, and you can even have them made out of polypropylene instead. Also the bars are stronger on the heavier duty files.

Standard files have  a V bottom – if you’re storing a lot in each file go for the ones with a square base to give more capacity and longer life.

Most files come complete with the plastic index tabs and insert cards – if you need more then check you get the particular ones designed for your files.

Need to buy a hole punch?

Almost all of us will have used a hole punch if only when filing our work for school or college.

What should you consider when buying a new one?

Most hole punches produce two holes at standard spacing that fits general ring binders or lever arch files. Other punches are available for 4 holes (helps prevent tearing of sheets in 4-ring binders) or adjustable ones that can use 2, 3 or 4 cutters and the spacing can be varied – great for those unusual applications including some American 3 hole systems.

An adjustable paper guide is normally provided to help get all your holes in the right place. If you’re punching more than a few sheets at a time it’s well worth getting a heavier duty punch to avoid overloading and breaking a small one (The guarantee won’t cover you if this happens).  Larger capacity punches are stronger made and normally have a longer handle for extra leverage.
